Education Resources Available

Western Colorado Contractors Association leads education efforts through the WCCA Education Committee directed by member needs, and through regional partners that provide opportunities for construction related businesses.

WCCA’s Education Committee meets quarterly and focuses on two specific areas: Current Workforce and Future Workforce Efforts. To learn more about the WCCA Education Committee or resources available, contact WCCA Staff at (970) 245-1384.

Collaborating with regional entities, here are efforts and resources to build a future construction workforce in Western Colorado

HEO Logo

Construction companies all over Colorado have a shortage of skilled Heavy Equipment Operators that are needed for companies to compete for and complete jobs in the industry. Western Colorado is no exception. The number 1 concern of Western Colorado Contractors Association (WCCA) Members is the ability to attract and train the next generation of skilled workers without the overhead of sending employees to the other side of the state. Out of that need, WCCA has constructed a Heavy Equipment Operators Apprenticeship for Contractors in Western Colorado.

Transportation impacts our lives each day—from the bridges you cross to the signs you read to the construction reports you follow. A good transportation system allows us to get to work, enjoy recreational activities and access health care. It allows companies to provide products and services to consumers.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) exists to ensure that Colorado has a safe and efficient highway system by building and maintaining interstates, U.S. highways and state highways.

OSHA safety and health standards fall into four major categories — general industry, maritime, and construction and agriculture. Standards are published in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 29, Part 1900-1999. With the exception of some exempt industries, employers of 11 or more employees must maintain updated records of occupational injuries. Employers with 10 or fewer employees are exempt unless selected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics or OSHA. Small employers who are selected to maintain records will be notified in advance and supplied the necessary forms and instruction.
