CREATING A WORKFORCE- CONTRACTORS NEEDED
The Construction Industry is trying to fill in a gap between workers retiring with years of experience and knowledge and incoming workers who entering their construction career. Job fairs have been yielding some return on time spent behind a table. However, most learners are hands-on and need an experience that sparks their interest. The Western Colorado Construction Career Day in Grand Junction provides HANDS ON EXPERIENCE for eleventh grade students in a one day event. Up to 35 Construction Businesses provide a hands-on station for students to learn related construction skills some of which have included: Asphalt Paving, Framing, Electric, Sheet Metal, Utilities, Safety, Locating, Construction Management, and Engineering.
October 11, 2022 the Western Colo. Construction Career Day will be held at Mesa County Fairgrounds.
This community event is open to 11th grade students who are interested and apply through their school counsellor. Construction related businesses can help by having a hands-on station or help offset costs of this event (student meals, bags, signs, security, ect.) through an available sponsorship or in kind materials. Each station has 5-6 (20)-minute scheduled classes between 9am and 2pm. (Maximum of 150 students per station over the event). Number of participating students is based on stations available.
